Julia Donaldson hands out prizes to young poets!

The ex-children’s laureate is master of ceremonies as the Foyle Young Poets competition winners are announced at the Southbank in London to mark National Poetry Day

The judges have made their decision and out of a record-breaking 13,630 poems sent in from over 7600 poets across the world, they have selected the winners of the 2014 Foyle Young Poet of the Year award.

The 15 winners are from countries as diverse as France, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Canada and the USA, and are all coming together at London’s Southbank Centre to collect their prizes from former Children’s Laureate and Gruffalo aficiondo Julia Donaldson! There are also another 85 commended poets, all aged between 11 and 17, who were singled out for extra praise by judges Grace Nichols and Simon Barraclough.
