Velociraptor

The Yoghurt Plot by Fleur Hitchcock – review

Velociraptor: 'When they taste them, they are instantly transported back in time to the date on the yoghurts'

The Yoghurt Plot is about two brothers who move to a new house and discover that the fridge works, even when unplugged. It also has changing combinations of magnetic letters on the front which they arrange into words. The other strange thing is that new yoghurts keep appearing in the fridge with different expiry years. They taste delicious, even if the date is 40 years ago! When they taste them, they are instantly transported back in time to the date on the yoghurts.

They find that they are in the same house and town, but before their parents were born. The town is very quiet, with very few buildings and traffic and the pier has not yet burned down. It turns into a time traveling adventure where the boys have to avoid bumping into themselves from different time periods. They need to rescue their parents, who have also eaten some yoghurt, find out why and how the pier burned down, prevent it from burning down, and in doing this, save their grandpa who used to do ballroom dancing on the pier.

The book can get a bit confusing at times, as they travel backwards and forwards, but it's a lot of fun. The fridge being alive and communicating with them was very funny.
