The Iron King by Julie Kagawa – review

I absolutely loved this book! I enjoyed it right from page 1 up until page 363. It's been a while since I enjoyed a book this much!

I haven't found many 'faery' books that I have enjoyed. Meghan Chase is a normal teenager. She doesn't fit in at school. She has lived a pretty normal life. However, on her 16th birthday things change. Meghan starts to see things that shouldn't be there and soon she realises why she's never felt like she belonged: it's because she doesn't. She's sure she is being watched and on her birthday things come to light. Her little brother, Ethan, is replaced by a violent changeling.

Meghan soon discovers that her brother has been taken to the land of Fey and that she must enter Faeryland to rescue him. She also discovers that her best friend Robbie is a Fey, and that he has been sent to look after her by order of King Oberon of the the Unseelie Court.

Meghan enters Nevernever and encounters many monsters and strange creatures. She is also hunted by the Winter Prince, Ash. She travels through forests and along the way she picks up lots of enemies! However, she never tires in her quest to find her brother. Her journey is one of peril and danger.

The Iron King is hard to review as I don't want to give too much away. There are many twists and turns along the way, and I can't wait to get my teeth into the next book, The Iron Daughter.

I liked Meghan as a character, she was strong and likeable. I loved Ash, he seemed like such a dark and devious Prince which I loved! (I always like the bad guys in books). Robbie was comical and Grimalkin was sarcastic (like me).

You grow to love the characters when reading the book. I loved the plot line and I raced to finish the book. Cannot wait to get the second book (it's on its way as I type). I'd highly recommend it; it has become one of my favourite books!
