Replica by Jack Heath – review

Tinde712: 'Is it a good idea to manufacture something that can feel emotion and then treat it less than human?'

Replica is about a girl named Chloe who awakes to find all her memories wiped. The only person who knows what's going on is a teenage girl who looks exactly like her. Not knowing who she is and what she wants, Chloe is running out of time to discover the truth. But she's in even more danger than she realizes, and nothing is as it seems.

Replica is one of the most gripping books I have ever read. It is a deep and addictive page turner bound to leave its fans wanting more. Jack Heath's writing was extremely intricate: he dives into Chloe's mind and expresses all of her thoughts. This really helped me as a reader sympathise with her and actually made me believe I was with her every step of the way.

This book really made me think about the future of the world's technology and how complex robots will be developed before considered immoral. Is it a good idea to manufacture something that can feel emotion and then treat it less than human? I do not know if Jacks Heath's message was intentional but it was really clear to me as I believe that someday technology will be advanced enough for something like this to happen.

Replica jumps straight into the mystery from page one, meaning there is never a dull or slow moment. I was captivated to find I never wanted to put it down. What really helped develop the mystery was the idea of giving Chloe a fractured memory. This also added points to the creepy factor because she knows something, but cannot remember. This to me would be pretty terrifying.

I did lose interest slightly about half way through, but the ending was so exciting that I am willing to forgive and forget. I was so satisfied and yet so unsatisfied with the ending that I'm finding it pretty difficult to concentrate on anything else. I am hoping for a sequel, although I am not sure where the author will take Chloe; nevertheless I would excitedly read anything involving these characters.
I truly recommend this book for all the mystery and sci-fi fans. This book does not disappoint.
