Summer and The City is a coming of age novel following one of the best-loved fashionistas throughout her first summer in New York City. It shows Carrie Bradshaw as a teenager on her own in NYC trying to make it as a writer. She falls in love, makes friends, breaks friends, and most of all finds herself.
This fabulous book picks off where The Carrie Diaries was left. Carrie Bradshaw has just arrived in New York for her summer adventure. She knows that if she doesn't make it this time as a writer, she never will, as in a matter of weeks she will be attending Brown College back in the small and boring town that is Castlebury. She meets Samantha, Miranda and throughout this book you see their friendships blossom, which is quite exciting if you have seen the series and/or movies. This book is the perfect sequel to The Carrie Diaries Novel as it shows a different side to Carrie. Carrie has a romantic acquaintance with an older playwright in this book; personally I don't like this part and I thought it made Carrie slightly more unlikeable. In this novel Carrie is a little self-centered which is disappointing but then again, if you want to make your dreams reality, you do need to put yourself first sometimes. This book is my favourite spring/summer read as it defines the teenage era. I love the fact that Carrie is determined and driven and that she wants something so much, every girl should have her determination. Summer and The City represents girl power and independence at its best and I am sure that if you read it you will agree.
