Jack White's Third Man Records is expanding: the label will officially launch its new publishing wing next month, with the release of Language Lessons: Volume 1.

The debut release from Third Man Books isn't just an ordinary hardback, however: co-edited by Third Man's Ben Swank and Chet Weise, who is poet, musician and founder of the literary event Poetry Sucks, Language Lessons will include a 321-page collection of poetry and prose and two vinyl LPs.

As well as featuring the words of punk pioneers Richard Hell and Tav Falco, well-known authors, including Pulitzer-nominee for fiction Dale Ray Phillips, poet CD Wright and Pulitzer finalist in poetry Adrian Matejka have also contributed.

The vinyl element of the release includes as-yet-unheard material from artists such William Tyler, Destruction Unit, Ken Vandermark and Paul "Wine" Jones, and boasts, according to Third Man, "jazz, psychedelic-punk, poetry, blues and pop". Its website features the following manifesto:

THIRD MAN BOOKS, LIKE LANGUAGE LESSONS, WILL BE FEARLESS, IMAGINATIVE, AND ECLECTIC. WE HOPE TO BE A WELCOME ADDITION TO WHAT IS ALREADY A VERY COMPELLING AND THRILLING INDEPENDENT AMERICAN LITERARY LANDSCAPE.

Out on 5 August, the package is currently available for pre-order for $50 (£29.29), and will be distributed in limited bookstores and record shops. "That's a lot of bang for your buck …" reads the website. "and it all comes housed in a hard-case clothbound sleeve. Has any other record label ever created such a thing? Are we mad?!"

Jack White released a solo album Lazaretto last month. He recently broke the record for the fastest creation of a vinyl cut by recording, pressing and packaging a song in fewer than four hours. He also put out an ultra LP version of Lazaretto, which came packed with curiosities such as hidden tracks and holograms.

During recent gigs, White has covered a string of hits, such as Lorde's Royals, the Stooges I Wanna Be Your Dog and Jay Z's 99 Problems, which you can watch below.
