I found it entertaining. The end is a bit scary, particularly when she started to see blood everywhere.

The twist was surprising and confusing too.

I would say that it is a book that is best read with someone. Reading it on your own for someone who is eight may not be that good unless they have read other scary stories first, like Harry Potter.
