Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – review

Juliette Ferrahs. Broken, alone, tortured by her own abilities and lethal touch. Locked up in an asylum for something that wasn't her fault.

But she can never be left alone. The Reestablishment has plans to turn her in to a weapon, to use her to hurt and kill the remaining people in the fractured world.

Will she let them take her?

The first thing I want to say about this book, is how beautifully written it is. The similes and metaphors were perfect for where the book is set, and the way Juliette was voiced was so believable and really brought the character to life. I loved where it was set (because I generally love dystopian novels) and just the concept of the book was really simple but really affective. For me, it was a page-turner. I would've read it at school if my teachers didn't have such good eyesight, but I still managed to finish it in about three days.

The only thing I didn't particularly like is the amount of 'romantic scenes'. Maybe it's because I'm 12, I really don't know, but I find that a few is good, but otherwise it takes away some of the adrenaline rush you get from the exciting bits.

But apart from that minor detail, I highly recommend this book to teens who have read and enjoyed things like Divergent and The Hunger Games.

4.5 stars out of 5.
