Welcome to this week's blog. We know what TLS is all about so let's dive straight in and start with some highlights and recommendations from last week's thread.

elllipsis read:

Hangover Square by Patrick Hamilton.

I wasn't even aware of his existence until a few weeks ago (trip to London) - and before you kill me, I'm foreign - but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Poor old George Harvey Bone, indeed...

I am reading The Book of Daniel by Doctorow and it is one of the most harrowing books I have picked up. The language is pushy and brilliant, the ideas hard-edged and delivered with muscle. It is not just a story, it is as devious and full of subterfuge as the era it represents.

I ordered it after reading The Coffee Story by Peter Salmon, who declared this book to be his bible.

Just read "The Legend of White Eagle" by Raymond Shevsky - humorous reworking of the Western myth with a boatload of environmental-friendly sentiment. Could be a real winner if made into a movie...

I finished Fludd and loved every moment, then began straight away on The Fall of the Stone City by Ismail Kadare. The latter is, as I'm currently about a third of the way through it, looking to be another hit - thanks to Guardian Books for sending it! I'll most likely write a review once I'm done.

You are very welcome R042, and our eagle-eyed editors have already picked up your review of Fludd to feature on our editor's picks carousel.

If you would like us to send you a book, write a cracking review on any book page and if you see it highlighted in the weekly readers review roundup, we'll send you a book. Last week we sent Peter Carey's new novel to one of our regulars, Stpauli
