Safari, So Good! All About African Wildlife by Bonnie Worth – review

Teri and Mya :'I wasn't sure if Mya would like it as I thought the Cat in The Hat would be better suited to older children. I was wrong!'

When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure if Mya would like it as I thought the Cat in The Hat would be better suited to older children. I was wrong! Mya really liked this book and over the course of a week she went back to it every day. The book is about different African wildlife and the Cat in The Hat takes you around Africa on a safari.

The book is colourful and factual. I was caught slightly off guard by how factual the book is. In fact the book has provoked some interesting discussions between me and my husband. This is because the book does talk about and show (in a friendly way) how animals eat other animals, for example "Predators hunt weaker animals to munch. Prey tries hard NOT to be a predator's lunch." Also there's a picture of a giraffe giving birth, again in a friendly and not graphic way.

Mya was fine with all of this and loved the pictures of all the animals. The verse goes on a bit too long for her now as she wants to turn the page more quickly than I can read it to her, but this book is great and is one we will keep going back to and that Mya will grow in to.
