The Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd – review

ThePinkElephant: 'It had me rolling around in laughter at some points, and thoughtful at others'

The Carbon Diaries 2015 was a great read, set in the near future, where Global Warming has gone to a point to where England had decided to ration Carbon, and how that affects the life of sixteen year old Laura. It was interesting to read as it gave me an insight as to how we may have to live our lives in a few years, and it made me wonder how I would deal with the situation, were I in Laura's shoes.

Having some level of understanding about our current environmental situation helps to understand the plot of this novel, however, Laura explains everything as she goes along in simple language - that isn't an issue.

However, do remember that the story isn't only about the environment and politics, but is a diary of Laura, and the everyday problems of an average sixteen year old girl's life. Will her mother be one with her inner wolf? Will her band ever make it? Will Ravi Datta ever love her? Does her father love the pig more than her? The Carbon Diaries 2015 manage to send an important message inside a hilarious novel, which manages to include every aspect of a typical teenager's life. It had me rolling around in laughter with tears streaming down my face at some points, and thoughtful in others.

An absolutely brilliant read.
