Fly by Night by K M Peyton – Review

Poppy68: 'Realistic, inspirational, wonderfully written'

Pony-mad Ruth Hollis dreams to own a pony. When her family move from London to the countryside of East Anglia, it seems that her dream has come true.

When Ruth meets Fly-by-night, a headstrong, fierce pony, she is immediately determined that he is the pony of her dreams. Soon though, Ruth realises that she is stuck. Ruth's family are not wealthy and any chance of having horse-riding lessons is scarce. Where would she find a saddle, a bridle and a stable? Who would help her learn?

Pearl, a rich and self-obsessed girl, turns out to be a nightmare companion though she is the only other girl who owns a pony in the village.

And what about Peter? The silent, unsociable but skilled horse-rider. How will she manage?

I liked this book because Ruth is really realistic, and she is definitely an inspirational character.

This marvellous book by K.M Peyton is wonderfully written and I would recommend it to any horse-loving 8 to 12 year-old.
