Angelina Jolie is considering a part as a Bond girl in the new 007 movie if the role is toughened up, according to the Sun. Jolie, who starred with new Bond Daniel Craig in the first Tomb Raider film in 2001, has read the script for the forthcoming adaptation of Casino Royale, but is concerned that the character she is being asked to play is too lightweight. An "insider" told the newspaper: "Angelina would rather play a baddie than eye candy."
Peter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal prepared for Sam Mendes' forthcoming Gulf war drama, Jarhead, by living together for five months. Sarsgaard, who plays Gyllenhaal's sniper partner in the adaptation of Anthony Swofford's memoirs of his time on active duty in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, felt it was important that they developed the dynamic of people who had spent time together in limited space. "The idea was to simulate the military experience: what happens if you're forced to be with someone every minute of the day and night," Sarsgaard told yesterday's New York Times Magazine. "And we fought. We'd have a fight and then we'd still have to be together. For a while, I would just wear headphones. All the time. That lasted for 10 days."
The best movies made in Scotland last year were honoured last night at the first annual Scottish Bafta awards. Best film went to Gaby Dellal's On A Clear Day, the comedy about a man who swims the English Channel. Shirley Henderson won the best actress award for Frozen, Juliet McKoen's thriller about a woman searching for her missing sister, while Chris O'Dowd took best actor for his role in the black comedy Festival. The latter also took the best director gong for Annie Griffin at the ceremony in Glasgow's Radisson hotel. Until last year the awards were held every other year but organisers said an increased profile for the Scottish film industry meant an annual event was necessary.
