Winona Ryder has become the latest star to board JJ Abrams' highly anticipated Star Trek reboot. Ryder will play the mother of the young Spock in the Lost creator's upcoming sci-fi adventure. Ryder recently completed filming on the Brett Easton Ellis adaptation The Informers and is preparing to shoot the oestrogen-fuelled drama Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Star Trek is due to open in cinemas in 2008.
Mark Wahlberg will star as a vengeful police officer in the videogame adaptation Max Payne. Wahlberg, currently filming The Lovely Bones for Peter Jackson, will play a recent widower on the trail of a formidable adversary. The actor will next be seen here in December in the crime drama We Own The Night opposite Joaquin Phoenix.
Pixar's worldwide hit Ratatouille is among 12 films named in the long-list for the 2008 animated feature Oscar. The culinary rat goes up against The Simpsons Movie, Shrek the Third, and the upcoming epic Beowulf, among others.
