Sparkle's mum and dad die! This was about as far as we got, not that Minnie seemed bothered they were dead, just that she must have seen how long and laborious a read this was.
Sparkle goes to live with her aunt, who is a boring unemotional cold woman cue a 'Pans Labyrinth' style make-believe - 'I can hear the music play in the forest and all is at once right with the world'.
I found this dull but I am sure others wouldn't, very flighty and a bit folksy.
The illustrations are dark and not very grabbing but possibly go with the theme of losing loved ones.
