The Fishing Trip by Beatrice Rodriguez – review

Gabrielle and Eloise: 'This book is illustrated with no dialogue leaving us able to add any story that we wish to the pictures'

Chicken, Fox and Crab live together and when they find the fridge bare, chicken and crab go on an adventure to find food while Fox looks after the Hen's egg. The pictures showcase the struggles that Chicken (with Crab seeming more of a passenger) goes through to bring home food. This book is illustrated with no dialogue leaving us able to add any story that we wish to the pictures.

My daughter just wasn't interested in this book at all - perhaps it was the lack of appealing dialogue her mother came up with, but she loves bright colours, and the more subtle palette of colours didn't seem to interest her.

However, many adult friends enjoyed flicking through the book, so I think this is one that will be brought out at a later stage. The popularity of cartoons with adults and lack of childish dialogue in this book would make this a great gift for any age.
