Halle Berry has broken her arm while filming the psychological thriller Gothika in Canada. According to reports the Oscar winning actor was shooting a physically demanding scene when the injury occurred. A publicist for the production said Berry broke a bone in her right forearm and was discharged after treatment at Montreal hospital. With just under half the nine-week shoot remaining it is unclear whether the 34-year-old actress will be able to return to her role as a psychologist trapped in an asylum.
Cate Blanchett will play Beatrix Potter in Miss Potter, which will be directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Evelyn). The autobiographical tale follows the rise of the writer and creator of legendary characters such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck, Screen Daily reports. Blanchett will be seen later this year in Veronica Guerin, about the murdered Irish crime reporter, and The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King. She is currently filming The Missing, a Western that co-stars Tommy Lee Jones and is being directed by Ron Howard.
Nicolas Cage will play a disgraced police officer who must fight to clear his name in a film adaptation of the video game Dead To Rights. The project is being put together by the Oscar winning actor and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. "The videogame is so compelling because it has so many rich elements and the trick is to cut them down and get to the core story," di Bonaventura told Variety. "The central character is emotionally tortured and that always makes for a good movie and a good Nic Cage movie."
Kim Basinger is preparing to star in the drama A Good Woman, based on Oscar Wilde's play Lady Windermere's Fan. Basinger will play a 1930s woman who escapes family troubles in New York and flees to the French Riviera. Filming is due to start in August but Screen Daily reports producers are agonising over whether to shoot on the French or Italian Riviera. And they say nurses have it tough. Joseph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Wilkinson will also star.
Jude Law is in the frame to play Errol Flynn in Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, according to the Daily Express. The film will look at the friendship between the two men and stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead.
