This book has no WORDS, and for this reason the book did not start well for us. My 5 year old complained "...but it has no words" when I asked her to read it. Maybe read was the wrong word in this instance!
The book is about a town of animals that are preparing for a birthday party and you have to work out who the birthday is for and follow each character until the party. There are a lot of characters and I think everyone would find someone they could relate to, such as the hapless father who is trying to make the cake; the naughty twins; and the tantrum throwing toddler.
The book is time-consuming not least because my youngest wanted to stay on the one page and look at the one character, who she determined was a monster! This wouldn't be my choice for a bedtime story because it involves a lot of talking and is very time consuming; we spent 30-40 minutes on it in the first sitting.
My 2 year old loved looking at all the different pictures, she was in a world of her own; she made up stories of monsters eating monsters, we were not invited to this version of the story. I guess the beauty of this book is when you have no words the story can be whatever you want it to be.
