1) The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
This book is amazing, gorgeous and utterly brilliant. A picture book which is a constant favourite! The rhyming text is addictive and memorable and the characters are just lovely.
2) This is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen
Having just discovered this because of the Greenaway awards, we instantly loved it!
It is cute, hilarious, funny, optimistic, traumatizing and shows that stealing is not a good thing to do as there are always consequences – even for fish!!
3) We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
This book is a unanimous favourite and we can all just about chant it word for word because we have read it so much.
It is funny, exciting and we love that the family rush away from the bear but the bear just wants to be friends… a brilliant book!
4) The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
We all loved this when we were little and some of us have even still got our original copies.
It is colourful, funny and it has food in it (Jacob). We also love it when he changes into a butterfly because you can see in his wings the colours of all the food he has eaten.
5) The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan
Everything about this book is just gorgeous. From the blueprinted background pages to the bottle top collection in the front and back, the illustrations are just stunning.
The red stands out so vividly on each page and it is such a lovely message that even lost things find a place eventually. A very unusual, quirky but mesmerizing book!
