I didn't expect the story I got from the cover, the cover of the book made me think that it was going to be some perfect high school romance and that it would be an easy read. However, the story I read was definitely not that - it had deeper meanings that touched on some hard issues. It certainly wasn't your typical love story.

The story follows Flynn and River who meet whilst working on the inter-school play, Romeo and Juliet. Their lives couldn't be more different; River has a big house and money. Flynn lives in a tiny apartment with his mum and 2 sisters. He also takes any work he can to support his family. He's had a pretty tough life. His past definitely affects his personality throughout the book. Flynn plays Romeo in the school play and is the heart throb in the story but he isn't perfect - far from it. He has a bad temper but is also incredibly sweet and caring.

River has low self esteem which is very relatable to teenagers these days, but, she was slightly paranoid about her looks which did get a little bit annoying throughout the book. She always had niggles about the way she looked, whether Flynn really liked her etc. She did come across as quite whiny and that she only cared about finding her one 'true' love.

Overall though, I found the story really enjoyable and was surprised at how much I liked it. I definitely want to read the rest of the 'Flynn' series. If you're a fan of teen/YA romance then I would recommend you try this book. It's a love story with a deeper meaning.
