Where does the story of the war in heaven (Lucifer/Satan rebelling against God and his faithful angels, and being cast out to plunge into hell) come from? I know there are parts of the Old Testament that hint at, or can be made to seem to refer to the story, but where did the narrative, as John Milton expressed it in Paradise Lost, come from? I am guessing that Milton did not make it up out of whole cloth?
