Lean In, a sort of autobiography-cum-life guide for women by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, was published this week. But the conversation around the book has been going on for at least the past month.

Based on her own experiences and expanding on a TED talk from 2010, Sandberg asks why progress by women in achieving leadership roles in the US has slowed, and offers advice on how women can get ahead in their careers in a workplace still dominated by men.

Sandberg's focuses on how women should not be afraid to "lean in" to their ambitions and seek success. But much of Sandberg's advice could also apply to men. Workplace tactics like negotiating salaries, seeking out mentors and productively asking for a promotion are things both sexes struggle to achieve.

What do you think of her blueprint? What's the best career advice you've ever received? We'd like to know.

Some other questions to consider:

• Who gave the advice?
• Is there someone in your life who's guided you through your career path?
• Do you read self-help books like Lean In? What do they have in common?
