I'm back! Did you miss me? Thanks for hosting TLS in my absence, Claire.
What did I miss? Thanks to everyone who left comments in the thread last week. An interested conversation started after singo111 made this suggestion:
Why not have a thread each week/month specifically for published/self-published writers (see numerous examples above) to highlight links to their work. Other commentors could then view and provide comments, advice and criticism.
I think this is a good idea. If writers and readers share links to works rather than pasting whole paragraphs into the thread, it could be great swap-shop for off the radar writing.

the first National Flash Fiction Day is fast approaching which I very much hope the Guardian will cover - the event is fast gathering speed and has even attracted Arts Council funding in recent weeks.
Yes! We are also fans of punchy, perfectly formed short, short ficition and intend, in some way, to mark Flash Fiction Day. Mark it in your diaries folks; 16 May.
Before I continue with this week's review list, I'd like to highlight the fine photo at the top of this blog uploaded to our What are you reading, today? Flickr group by reader Robert Burdock.
If you have any suggestions for books, authors or topics we should be covering on the site, please tell us in the comment thread below.
Here are some of the books we'll be reviewing and writing about this week. What you are reading today?

• The Apartment by Greg Baxter
• Talulla Rising by Glen Duncan
• Under the Same Stars by Tim Lott
