The Son Of Neptune by Rick Riordan is a truly outstanding book. When I first read it a few days ago I was completely stunned by what I was reading: a book as good as any I would ever read.

The Son Of Neptune is about a teenager named Percy Jackson, mostly. Rick Riordan has already written a whole series about him. If you have read the first book of the second series, you will know that Percy goes missing from a Greek demi-god camp (which is where they get combat training). During the story, Percy finds out about another demi-god camp, although it is not a Greek demi-god camp. It's Roman. When Percy is rescued by two Roman demi-gods named Frank and Hazel from Medusa's two evil sisters, they bring him to a Roman camp. As soon as they get there, Percy, Frank and Hazel are sent on a quest to unleash Thanatos, the god of death so that their enemies the Giants will die. Most of the book is based on the quest.

Books don't get much better.

I would recommended it to children aged 9-12
