Greek Beasts and Heroes: The Monster in the Maze by Lucy Coats – review

ChristopherW:'I love hearing different myths and legends from all over the world so I enjoyed reading this'

This is the third story in the Greek Beasts and Heroes books, but I didn't realise until I'd already started reading it! Whoops! It contains 9 stories from Ancient Greece which are told by a Greek man called Atticus who is on a quest. There is a map at the beginning of the book telling you where he has been on his journey which I thought was very interesting.

I love hearing different myths and legends from all over the world so I enjoyed reading this. My favourite story in the book was called 'The Girl Who Grew Into A Bay Tree' – it's about Daphne, the river god's daughter who is turned into a tree by Apollo.

I thought that Lucy Coats' version of the Minotaur in the maze was a bit short, I wanted more fighting and for Theseus to have a harder time defeating the monster.

The book is illustrated by Anthony Lewis, there were lots of pictures all through the book to show you what the characters might have looked like and what they might have worn.

I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

3 and a half stars
