6-28 Nov: Book Now Literature Festival The popular festival returns to Richmond Upon Thames, with guests including Fay Weldon, Hanif Kureishi and Roger McGough. Various venues.

6 Nov: Gorillaz Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett will be signing copies of The Rise of the Ogre, the new illustrated biography of their animated band. Waterstones, 311 Oxford St, 6pm.

7 Nov: Alex Kapranos The singer of Franz Ferdinand discusses and signs copies of his new book, Sound Bites. Bloomsbury Theatre, 15 Gordon St, 7pm, £5

9 Nov: Modernism and the East A panel including Amit Chaudhuri, Mark Ford, Pankaj Mishra and Eliot Weinberger discuss ideas of Easternness in the Western Modernist canon and the development of a non-European modernism in India and Bengal. The British Museum, 6.30pm, £5/3.

9 Nov: Shakespeare's Identity Crisis Author Charles Beauclerk explores the authorship of Shakespeare's plays and the playwright's own identity crisis, as part of a series of lectures on the authorship controversy. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Bankside, 7.30pm.

East and Midlands

6-11 Nov: Thanet Tales Week A week of talks, workshops and events to celebrate Kent authors, including a young people's short story competition. Various venues.

8 Nov: Setting Her Right - Eve In Christian Art Eamon Duffy, Professor of the History of Christian Art, explores the representation of women and ideas of fall and redemption in Christian art. Kettle's Yard, Cambridge, 6.30pm, £5/2.

9-13 Nov: Southwold Literature Festival Coastal literary festival featuring a wide range of speakers including Margaret Drabble, Rageh Omaar and Joan Bakewell. Various venues.

11 Nov: Sir Ranulph Fiennes - My Life as an Explorer A fundraising lecture delivered by Britian's greatest living explorer. Scott Polar Institute, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, 5pm.

West and Wales

6 Nov: Peter Shaw Cardiff born Peter Shaw signs copies of Hole, his account of his kidnapping and captivity in Georgia. Waterstones, 2a The Hayes, Cardiff, 2pm.

7 Nov: Catrin Collier The authoress signs copies of her new novel set in 1930s Wales, Tiger Ragtime. WH Smith, Swansea.

7 Nov: Gordon Ramsay The flamboyant chef signs copies of his autobiography, Humble Pie. Waterstones, 11a Union Galleries, Bristol, 2pm.

North

8 Nov: Jon Ronson - Out of the Ordinary The investigative journalist discusses and signs copies of his new collection of Guardian articles. Borders, Stockport, 6.30pm.
