Dame Judi Dench is to return as M in the new James Bond film, Casino Royale. Producers have ditched Pierce Brosnan in favour of the younger Daniel Craig as a stripped down, back-to-basics 007, but it appears they are not ready to completely cut all ties to the previous incarnation. "I'm very much looking forward to working with Daniel, but I've not even read a script yet," Dame Judi told Empire Online. "All I know is that we're due to start in February."
It would appear that setting the worldwide box office alight is not enough to win you fame and recognition in Australia. According to Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, he is constantly being mistaken for Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood while filming new movie December Boys down under. "I admit when a couple of people have put autograph books under my nose I've signed them: 'Much love Elijah Wood,'" said Daniel.
Russell Crowe joked that anyone who spoke for too long whilst collecting their awards at the Australian film industry awards on Saturday would be struck with his mobile phone. In a sendup of the recent incident in which he assaulted a Los Angeles hotel worker with a handset, the actor, who was hosting the ceremony, walked on stage clutching an old-fashioned Bakelite model. He then told the audience: "If there are any problems and you do get up here and go on too long, then 'hello' to my little friend." The Gladiator star, who pleaded guilty to third degree assault following the LA incident but escaped serious criminal charges, picked up the international award for best actor for his performance in Cinderella Man.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has won the best film category in the 10th annual Children's Bafta awards. Tim Burton's adaptation of Roald Dahl's not-so-sugary tale garnered 30,000 votes in the only category chosen by children. The Bafta panel had picked The Incredibles instead, but what do they know?
