The haphazard journey of Three Men in a Boat, the popular Victorian novel by Jerome K Jerome, is to be recreated by BBC2 for a two-part comedy. The book, based on Jerome's own experiences, tells the tale of the author's journey from Kingston to Oxford with his friends George, Harris and Montmorency the dog.

Griff Rhys Jones, Rory McGrath and Dara O'Briain will retrace the journey, 116 years after the book was first published, in an exact replica of the wooden skiff used by the original protagonists. As far as possible, they will stay in the same pubs and guests houses.
