Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is proving to be an enduring delight for British cinema-goers. Tim Burton's adaptation of the children's classic has now spent three weeks at the top of the UK box office, cashing in another £2.9m over the weekend. This brings its total takings to £26m.
Charlie's continuing success means that The Island, the sci-fi thriller starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson as runaway clones, opened in second place cashing in £1.5m.
At three is another new entry, Crash, a drama about race relations in Los Angeles starring Matt Dillon as a violent cop.
One place below is the children's comedy Herbie: Fully Loaded, also starring Dillon, this time in the role of a racing driver out to beat the talking Volkswagen car.
The animated feature Madagascar, about zoo animals escaping from New York, rounds up the top five.
