Adam Bishop died as he had lived. Cruelly. Inspector Ed Newson and Sergeant Natasha Wilkie surveyed the body. "It took him a long time to die," said Natasha.
"Hmm," muttered Ed. "It's very ritualistic. My bet is this murderer has killed before."
Ed returned to his office in Scotland Yard. How he wished he could tell Natasha he loved her! But beautiful women like her never fell for ginger short-arses like him. He checked through the list of unsolved cases. "Bingo," he cried as he linked five previously unrelated killings.
Back home, Ed longed for female company. He logged on to Friends Reunited. Almost immediately Helen Hart emailed him.
"I've never forgotten the way you dumped me for Christine Copperfield when we were 14," she said when they met. "Now do what you want to me."
Ed liked the dirty sex but found the way she repeatedly cut herself rather disturbing.
"I've never got over being bullied at school," she sobbed. "Christine Copperfield shoved a tampon in my mouth and it ruined my life. That's why I work with Kidcall, the children's bullying charity. We've got a great figurehead in Dick Crosby, the famous millionaire."
Back home Ed checked in with Friends Reunited. Wow! Christine Copperfield had invited everyone to an 80s revival concert.
"So glad you could come," Christine said, hugging him to her enhanced breasts.
Ed flashed his police ID and got them backstage where they met Dick Crosby. Later Ed asked why she had wanted to sleep with him.
"Despite my looks, I've always been insecure," she said. "But you've always been so clever and self-assured."
Two days later, Ed was feeling rather less self-assured when he found her dead, with a tampon in her mouth.
"The case is getting too close to home," Natasha said to Ed later, trying to hide the bruises around her eyes.
"Did Lance hit you again?"
"Yes, but I love him. I probably deserve it," she replied.
"How could you let him bully you?" Then it came to him. All the cases were related to bullying. He clicked on to Friends Reunited; all the victims were killed in the way they had bullied other children at school.
"So bullying really doesn't pay," Natasha said.
"Except for Lance," Ed thought bitterly. How he longed to hold her.
Natasha looked at Ed. How she wished he would take her in his arms.
"Is Helen Hart the killer?" she asked.
"Too obvious. It has to be someone they all recognised as they all let him in."
Ed set up a sting.
"I've come to kill you because you're a bully," said Dick Crosby. "I was bullied at school too, you know."
Ed rescued Natasha just in time. "I've always loved you," she cried.
