Steven Spielberg is planning to produce a live-action adaptation of Tintin, the daring reporter whose international exploits have thrilled readers ever since his comic book debut in 1929. Variety says Spielberg and producing partner Kathleen Kennedy will make the feature for Universal and DreamWorks although no director or acting talent has been signed yet. Spielberg recently scored an international hit with the sci-fi thriller Minority Report. His next film, the Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle Catch Me If You Can, is due to be released in the UK on January 31.
Scary Movie 3: Episode I - Lord of the Brooms, will be tackled by the director David Zucker. With previous credits including Airplane and the Naked Gun movies, Zucker seems an ideal choice to direct the next in the spoof horror series, which this time round trains its satirical sights on the Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars franchises. According to the Hollywood Reporter the third instalment of the highly successful comedy series is due to begin shooting in March 2003.
James Caan is in talks to take on the role of an elf's father in the Jon Favreau comedy Elf. "James has a wonderful comic touch, and I think he will have a great chemistry with Will," New Line production president Toby Emmerich told the Hollywood Reporter. "He was incredibly funny as a father figure in Mickey Blue Eyes and that really sold us on him for this part." The veteran Caan will next be seen in City of Ghosts and Lars Von Trier's Dogville.
Star Trek: Nemesis footage has gone online. The five-minute clip from the forthcoming film can be seen at ifilm and shows the Enterprise crew's first encounter with the villain of the piece, Shinzon, and a battle sequence. Fans will also be able to savour a showdown between Shinzon and Captain Picard. The film is due out here on January 3.
