· The Massachusetts senator John Kerry, a potential frontrunner if Mr Gore pulls out, is to be the subject of a book on his unusual double experience: fighting in Vietnam then crusading against the war. He has turned over his journals to the historian Douglas Brinkley

· Joe Lieberman, the vice-presidential candidate in 2000, and his wife Hadassah are producing An Amazing Adventure: Joe and Hadassah's Personal Notes on the 2000 Campaign

· North Carolina senator John Edwards, an ex-lawyer, is writing about how he helped injured children win substantial damages

· Tom Daschle is writing a memoir about the tense 18 months when he was the Senate majority leader
