Scooby-Doo 2 announced

Studio wants cast and director of successful cartoon adaptation to make a sequel

Those meddling kids are getting a sequel. After the huge opening weekend box office success of Scooby-Doo in the US, Warner Bros has announced that a second film is already in the pipeline.

The studio has given little away about the sequel's plot (not that it matters), but wants the cast of Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini and Matthew Lillard, and director Raja Gosnell, to return, which could mean big pay rises all round - unless they are contractually obliged to make the sequel.

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros' distribution president, told Daily Variety "the franchise is beginning", and that the second film in the series should be in cinemas in 2004.
