Tomb Raider director Simon West's next undertaking may be the long-anticipated big screen adaptation of cult 60s TV show The Prisoner.

West told Empire Online that the project was "just at the script stage" currently but did reveal (somewhat unsurprisingly, given his track record) that he envisaged the movie as being "on a much bigger scale" than the TV original.

He plans to shoot some of the film on the same set as the series at the village of Portmeirion in Wales, but said it: "Wouldn't be big enough stylistically to be the whole film." Other old favourites that West would like to see make a return include "key stuff from the series" - including both Number 6's car and original Prisoner star Patrick McGoohan.

McGoohan had a hand in the first draft of the screenplay which West finally got hold of. West said, "I don't know whether he's over it, but I want to wait until I've got a finished script I'm happy with before approaching him."

But the big question remains - who would star as West's Prisoner? He dismissed the idea that he'd already offered the role to Clive Owen as "internet rumours" while Cindy Pearlman in the Chicago Sun-Times claims that Russell Crowe is being pursued for the part.
