Rainforests combines the best of National Geographic magazine with a travel guide book. Part of a new series published by the Discovery Channel and guidebook specialist Insight, the publication features fantastic colour photography and inspirational editorial on rainforest habitats around the world. The only area where it lets itself down and reveals its US origins is in the travel information. While the list of accommodation in the travel tips at the end of each chapter is comprehensive, there is a distinct lack of UK tour operators listed at the back of the book. Not surprisingly, the US travel companies get a big write-up.

However, the kind of people who aim to visit Borneo, Madagascar and Papua New Guinea are probably more savvy than the average package holidaymaker and prepared to do their own research. Other books in the series are African Safari, Australian Outback, Snow Sports and Star and Sky.
