James Turrell
The American visionary James Turrell shows his photographs of the summer's eclipse in Cornwall. Turrell loves light like some artists love the body. His project is to make us realise how inadequate our understanding of visual experiences is. Next year the volcanic crater he has spent 25 years turning into an astral theatre opens to the public in Arizona. Meanwhile take a gander at his Cornish holiday snaps.

Gallery Of Costume
In the 19th century, Manchester's textile factories clothed the world. The City Art Gallery's costume department has just re-opened at the stately home of Platt Hall, with a flash new display, sculpture and upholstered panels by artist Simone Cobbold, and historical exhibits examining everything from fashion in the 1960s, with clothes by Mary Quant and Ossie Clark, to changing styles of galoshes. Perfect for a rainy day.
